After completing your IDC we recommend doing the MSDT (Master Scuba Diver Trainer) course. This 2 day course makes you a more employable dive instructor by enabling you to teach PADI Specialty courses.
A MSDT instructor is the next step of PADI dive instructor and can teach the PADI Master Scuba Diver courses which includes being trained in teaching 5 specialty courses. Being able to teach specialty courses is a boost in employability and you can offer clients (and your employer) a greater variety than ‘the other guy down the street’.
It is also more fun to teach courses that concentrate on other areas of diving that are interesting and exciting. For example if you are personally interested in diving with Enriched Air Nitrox or your passion is for Digital Underwater Photography, becoming an MSDT instructor will allow you to teach these specialty courses.
Aquatica likes to take our new Instructors to dive the SS Yongala for their MSDT. This is considered one of the best dive sites in Australia if not the world, due to abundance of marine life. You can see sea turtles, sea snakes, huge schools of Barracudas, Giant trevallies hunting around, Eagles rays and Manta Rays gliding by and various species of Sharks including the rare Bull Shark and Tiger Shark. From June to November you might even see a Humpback whale.
Due to its unique location between the shore line and the Great Barrier Reef the size of the marine life is amazing. You can see giant groupers the size of small cars! For more information on the SS Yongala read this Divezone review.
The SS Yongala is a fascinating dive not only for its marine life but also the history behind how the ship came to be there.
PADI has over 30 standard Specialty courses and we at Aquatica can train you to be an instructor in most of them.
